EAR SURGERY

Beauty Model showing ears

Although wrongly shaped ears do not cause any health complications, they quite often cause people to have a low self-esteem. For that reason, many people decide to have corrective surgery on their ears.

Ear reshaping surgery is also known as otoplasty and is a surgical procedure that is carried out to reduce the size of the ears, reshape the ears, or reset protruding ears so that they sit closer to the head.

Before the operation Procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia. It can also be performed under general anaesthesia. In adults and children older than ten under local anaesthesia, this procedure is completed as an out-patient. In the case of younger children, a general anaesthesia and hospitalization is required. This procedure is not recommended for children younger than six years old as their ears would not have fully developed. Where procedure is performed under general anaesthesia a full pre-op checks are required, those include blood tests, biochemical tests, ECG, urine test, internal examination.

Procedure The principal of the surgery is to loosen the skin on the back surface of the ear, severing the insignificant muscles of the lobe, thinning the cartilage by a special surgical laser and making the required reshaping. Attaching the lobe to the correct spot is done by several inner stitches with the assistance of laser. The advantage of the method provided by us is a low level of bleeding and swelling in the area of surgery and short time of recuperation. The operation usually lasts around 90 minutes.

After the operation The patients can get back to their common daily routine within 10 days from the operation. The bandage is removed the 3rd to 5th day after the surgery and then for other 5 days a special head band is worn. 10 days later the stitches are removed, and patients no longer have to wear any compression during the day although for the night it is recommended to have an elastic band for the following 3 weeks in order to avoid some unwanted micro injuries caused while sleeping. The patient can return to their daily routine and sport activities about a month after the operation. Very little bleeding and possible thrombosis as with any operation.
