Procedure Liposuction usually takes between one and three hours, depending upon the amount of fat to be removed. Surgical liposuction can be done under local anaesthetic for smaller areas but it more often requires a general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will inject a salt water solution into the fatty area to be treated to break up the fat before inserting a thin metal tube called a cannula into the area. The fat is sucked out via the cannula using a vacuum pump (liposuction) or a syringe (liposculpture). The tube may need to be inserted a few more times to remove all the fat. The small incisions made often do not require any stitches so will heal by themselves and be unnoticeable in time. Ultra-sound liposuction This method is different from the mechanical one in the principal of the operation itself. Compared to the mechanical destruction and sucking out the fatty tissue this one enables the treatment by an ultra-sound wave which forces the fatty cell to burst itself in the pulses of the ultra-sound waves and to release the contents of the fatty cell without mechanical force. The spilled content of the fatty cells is then sucked out. Together with the ultra-sound wave there is also a heat wave which makes the skin shrink more actively and strongly according to the newly shaped pattern. Ultra-sound is then more suitable for areas with larger amount of mass (e.g. belly) or in the areas with loosen skin (e.g. inner thighs and arms). Another advantage of the Ultra-sound lipo-suction is that it is capable to achieve much more balanced and smoother pattern and therefore is able to form the body even in the locations where it was not possible before (front part of the thighs). It Both types of liposuction can be can be done in local anaesthezia but from our experience we can say that it is more comfortable for the patient to undegro a general anaesthesia.
