A tummy tuck operation is a highly individualized procedure which involves a variety of incisions and techniques. At your FREE consultation you will be advised on the most appropriate technique for you.

The incision is made in the so-called bikini line – from hip to hip in such a way it can be hidden within most underwear or swimsuit. During the abdominoplasty operation, the skin and abdominal wall with the fat layer are separated, the navel is separated from the surrounding skin, abdominal muscles are tightened and the skin and subcutaneous tissue are stretched out while their excess is removed. During suturing non-absorbable or absorbable materials can be used. In the case of non-absorbable materials, the sutures must be extracted, while absorbable sutures dissolve in the body on their own and their advantage is also the fact that the scar is finer.

Before the operation The procedure is done under general anaesthesia with 2-3 days of hospitalization. All pre-op checks are required. In patients older than 35 years old lung and hearth scan will also be required. No food or drink is to be consumed at least 8 hours before the surgery.

Procedure Abdominoplasty surgery is done under general anaesthetic and takes approximately two to three hours. There are two main types of abdominoplasty surgery: Complete abdominoplasty (incl. muscles tightening and belly button transposition) – the belly button is cut from the surrounding skin, stretched muscles are pulled together and stitched, excess fat is removed. The skin is pulled down and the excess cut off. The belly button is re-positioned to fit the new shape of your abdomen. This type of surgery is usually performed for patients after significant weight loss after weight loss surgery. Mini tummy tuck – only the skin and fat in your lower abdomen is removed. The scar is along your bikini line.

After the operation This abdominal surgery normally requires a five night stay at the hospital followed by five to seven day stay at the clinic and period of limited movement and abdominal wall rest. During this time, the client should bend forward slightly when sitting or walking. Throughout the stay and before leaving the clinic, there is a medical check-up by the surgeon. Special compression bandages are worn. As with any operation, there are possible complications such as: Maximum discomfort will occur the first few days. You may feel tired for several weeks or months. Post-operative bleeding, or bleeding caused by insufficient post-operative care at home Infection of the wound, Haematomas You will have bruising and swelling of the abdomen. The majority of bruising and swelling will subside in 6-8 weeks. You may feel tired for several weeks or months. Scars will be reddened for about 6 months. After that, they will fade and soften.
